From Laguna Beach, CA to Sedona, AZ
After a week of takin' care of business in Southern California, we started our voyage East today. We had a tasty breakfast in Laguna Beach, where we were staying with my friend David, and then hit the road towards Arizona. We knew we needed to find the 10 freeway, but didn't have a firm destination in mind. At first we were planning to go to Sedona, then we changed our minds and thought we'd go to Hoover Dam, then we changed our minds back and went to Sedona.
On route we stopped at Jerome, which was once a ghost town perched on the side of a mountain. Hippies and artists revived the town in the 1960s, so it is now a funky mixture of ruins and new-age artist residences. Unfortunately, we didn't get time to sample a piece of Jennie's pie.
In Cottonwood, the last town before Sedona, we met a peacock in the middle of the road. Segui was probably too drowsy from his meds to care, as he didn't bat an eyelid. We arrived in Sedona just after sunset and the hotel manager was so taken by Segui that we got a reduced rate and an upgrade to a larger cabin. He may turn out to be our secret weapon at dog-friendly accommodations!
